FIJI: New presidency of UN Human Rights Council
As 2021 began, the UN Human Rights Council lacked a president. The rotating presidency was being sought by three states, Bahrain, Fiji and Uzbekistan. But civil society engaged to encourage members of the UN Human Rights Council to make the best possible choice by compiling a scorecard on some key aspects of human rights performance. When the vote was held on 15 January 2021, Fiji’s candidacy prevailed.
