PANAMA: Protests against cutbacks

In Panama people protested against government budget cuts in education and healthcare, with students to the fore in October protests. The police response was one of excessive force, and at least six people were detained, including a journalist covering the protest, Juan Alberto Cajar, who reported that the police had used pepper spray against him and beat him, despite Cajar having clearly identified himself as a journalist.
