INDIA: Dalit women protest against violence

In India, protests focused on the experiences of Dalit women, who face multiple layers of exclusion and violence due to the face that they are both women and members of the lowest caste. In October, the gang rape, torture and murder of a young Dalit woman in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh – sadly only one of a recent string of brutal rapes against Dalit women – triggered large protests across India.
