In April, after more than 20 years of litigation, the Inter-American Court of Human Rights ruled in favour of the Lhaka Honhat Association of Indigenous Communities and ordered the state of Argentina to grant the community a single title of communal ownership over 400,000 hectares of ancestral lands; it was the first time that the court recognised a state’s violation of the rights to cultural identity, a healthy environment, food and water.
