UN: Human Rights Committee develops standards on peaceful assembly

The UN Human Rights Committee, the body that monitors the implementation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), issued the UN General Comment on the right of peaceful assembly. This text was developed with input from civil society and provided legal guidance on the interpretation of ICCPR article 21, which sets out the fundamental right of peaceful assembly, a crucial one on which civil society relies and one of the rights, along with the freedoms of association and expression, that constitute civic space.
