VENEZUELA: UN fact-finding mission’s mandate extended
In 2020, the UN Human Rights Council extended for two years the mandate of the UN Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on Venezuela. In September, the mission reported evidence of widespread and systematic violations, including extrajudicial executions, sexual violence, enforced disappearance and torture, and the use of lethal weapons against protests; a CSO was subjected to high-level smears after cooperating with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights during a visit.
